I discovered Zara in Spain in the early 2000’s. Bought everything that fit me. It was just so cool! And colorful! (which I love) And European feeling. I still have one or two of the things I bought then. And I’m still a sucker for it, although I do feel guilty. But who can resist a hot pink satin button down? Or perfectly embroidered top? Thank you for capturing the complicated relationship with 70% off sales so beautifully.
Your Zara is my Teri Jon sample sale. Zara, I don’t bother with. Everything there will make me look like a thumb and I just can’t. But the thrill of getting a gorgeous frock at 75% off at the TJ semiannual ticketed sale… No returns. So I have these conversations with myself while trying on stuff in the open space with the 2 giant mirrors: yes the fabric is great but it does nothing for you. Nothing. You have stuff in your closet that looks better.
It takes a will of steel to shop. Thank you for capturing it.
God, I love a good shopping story and this one is delicious. Zoe Kravitz vs The Golden Girls delighted me to no end. Like a 60% sale, your writing is irresistible, Debra Fried.

We did love our Indian tops, didn't we?
What a wonderful piece. One of my sons shops there sometimes. I've always liked what he got.
Charming! And the tops do look lovely; I share your appreciation for a flowy peasant top.

This was such a fabulous read… I can’t say I’ve ever been into frills, but the peasant shirts spoke to me:)
I have always been that person on the outside of fashion with black T-shirts and dark straight jeans, but everyone needs a little scream of delight:)
I’m sending this one to the shoppers I love❤️
As Yogi once said,
"No wonder nobody goes there.
It's too crowded."
Once my elder daughter, Sarah, got all A's in high school.
We went to Ferragamo on Madison and got her a pair of shoes.
A couple weeks later, I was asked to exchange them for a larger size.
It was about the only time in my life I had grown a beard.
I looked like Bluto on the old Popeye cartoon.
Bluto gone to seed.
I ran into the mom of a friend of my other daughter.
A multi-billionaire.
She said, "I never expected to see you here."
She never would again.
